TALENTED artists in and around Marlborough are going to be opening their workshops for visitors to have a sneak peak at how they create their artwork.

More than 60 artists at over 40 locations from Calne to Devizes will be showcasing pottery, fine art portraits, glass and wire sculptures as well as eye-catching paintings from their studios as part of this year’s Marlborough Open Studios event.

It has also been 20 years since the first Open Studios took place and many of the artists involved from the beginning will once again be showcasing their inspiring work, some of whom photographer Mark Somerville has captured on film as part of his exhibition.

The art trail will run every weekend in July from 11am-5pm at studios from around the county including Wagon Yard Artists studio in Marlborough and locations in Pewsey, Axford, Burbage, Great Bedwyn and Aldbourne among many more.

Committee member Delia Merison said: “It’s very rare to get to see an artist’s work in progress and is an exciting concept. It gives people the opportunity to talk to the artist about what inspires them, where they get their ideas from and how they work.”

Some of the artists are also internationally known and have worked for high-end brands such as Jo Malone.

Arran Miles who specialises in life painting and printmaking will be exhibiting at Witcha Cottage just outside of Ramsbury with fellow artist Susan Kirkman.

She said: “We always look forward to it, meeting the public and talking about our work and discussing methods and techniques.

“I went to art school many years ago in the late 60s and studied fashion and textile design for 20 years and it’s been the last 20-25 years I’ve moved towards fine art and landscape drawing. I’m very much inspired by colour and light.

“Visitors will expect to see all our work, we are quite prolific and have a lot of art between us," Ms Miles added. "There will be a mixture of life drawings and prints and they will also see Susan’s print room and collection.”
