A ROAD off the A4 in Calne was closed for several hours on Friday (May22) by Calne Police following fears a building could collapse into the road.

Mill Farm, on the road leading from the A4 towards Blacklands, was undergoing renovation works when fears over the building’s stability were raised.

Workmen were attempting to remove an old grain feeder pipe attached to the building when the issue arose which saw the road closed between 4.20pm and 7.05pm.

PCSO Mark Cook said: “The builders were trying to move a pipe which was part of the old mill. It had to be propped up else it would have fallen down and could have gone into the road.

“I’d like to thank the patient motorists who were inconvenienced by the road closure.”

The Police were alerted to the danger by the Wiltshire Fire and Rescue service who also attended the incident having been called by the owner of the house.
