HUNDREDS turned out to support a charity match at Pewsey Vale Football Club on Friday to raise money for Charlie’s Charity in memory of popular teenager Charlie Lamb.

The Charlie 11 team saw a 3-2 victory against the Pewsey Vale Select 11 and there was also a special appearance from Bolton Wanderer player Max Clayton, who presented a signed shirt as a prize in the raffle.

Both teams were made up of former players, members of the current first team and those who had played with Charlie.

Childhood friend Jon Guthrie, who now plays for League One team Crewe Alexandra FC and brother James Guthrie, who plays for Chippenham Town FC, were also both part of the charity match.

Keen footballer and former St John's student Charlie, from West Grafton, died aged 18 in a car accident nearly six years ago and Charlie's Charity works to raise funds for young people in clubs and organisations across Wiltshire.

His mum Jane Lamb set up the charity in her son’s memory, she said: “It was a fantastic evening, we had great weather, great turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves."

One of the organisers of the match Neil Guthrie, who is also dad of Jon and James Guthrie, added: “There was a great turnout to cheer on Charlie’s team and the Pewsey Vale team.

“The final figure raised for Charlie’s Charity on the night will be in the region of £1,000 which was a fantastic effort.

“Thanks must go to Pewsey Vale FC, all the helpers and to those that generously donated to the raffle including Pia of Marlborough, The Seven Stars at Bottlesford, Crosby and Lawrence and special thanks to Walter Rose for the supply of burgers and sausages.”

Due to the success of the evening Mrs Lamb and the club plan to make the match an annual event to raise funds for the charity and celebrate Charlie’s life.
