GARDENERS in Devizes and Roundway are all set for this year’s open garden’s event to raise money for the mayor’s charities.

On June 13 and 14, gardeners will be flinging their back gates open to the public for the third running.

Maps are available to buy before the weekend at Devizes Books, The Emporium, the Town Hall, the Wharf Cafe and Hillworth Park Cafe or from one of the gardens on the day.

Chairman of Devizes and Roundway In Bloom, Zena Robson, said: “All our volunteer openers work very hard to make their gardens great places for you to visit and they all look forward to chatting with you about plants.”

The open garden weekend is non-competitive; however other parts of In Bloom are highly competitive.

Residents have four categories that they can enter: single hanging basket, single container, front garden and rear garden.

To enter for any or all of these categories, fill out an entry form, available from the Town Hall, or call 01380 722160 and speak to Elanor Ode.

Judging will take place during the July and you will be contacted by a committee member beforehand.

Mrs Robson said the committee have been told that the South West In Bloom judges are due to visit Devizes on July 9.

She said: “This is a nail-biting time for all involved as this is Devizes against the world.

“This is the day when we must shine so we are asking residents, neighbourhood groups, schools and businesses alike to help us to show the place at its best as we want to win gold for a fifth time.”

The open garden weekend will be on June 13 and 14 from 12midday until 5pm. Tickets are £5, with accompanying children free.
