HUNDREDS turned out for homeless charity Doorway’s annual spring fair on Saturday in St Andrew’s Church in Chippenham.

Doorway staff, volunteers and members of the community came together once again to increase awareness of homelessness in Wiltshire and raise much needed funds for the Doorway drop-in centre in Chippenham.

Chief executive of Doorway Lisa Lewis said: “It went really well, I'm always surprised with the amount of people the turn up and we managed to raise a fantastic total of £3,000 from the day."

Activities on Saturday included children’s games, craft stalls, tombola, plants, cakes, bric à brac and hot food.

There was also a raffle with many first class prizes including a voucher for a spa day at Bowood House, £200 in cash and a drive a tank experience voucher.

New Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan lent a hand by helping on the clothing stall.

Doorway is an open access drop-in centre for those who are homeless, sofa surfing or who have complex issues that might affect their ability to acquire and/ or sustain a tenancy.

This is the fourth time a spring fair has been held to raise money for the charity which holds drop in sessions twice a week in the Salvation Army Hall in Froghamshire, Chippenham.

Mrs Lewis said: “Events like this are really important for us as we get no funding so it allows us to raise our profile and get the Doorway name out there. It was also really great that Michelle came along to support us, and I look forward to working with her again in the future."
