THE Cherhill Spring Ball has raised more than £10,000 for Breast Cancer Care in memory of popular village resident Judi Willett.

Mrs Willett, a school governor and member of Cherhill Theatre Group, died in last June after fighting breast cancer for a number of years.

A number of her friends decided to hold a ball, attended by more than 150 people, at Wellington Barn in Calstone to raise money and as a happy occasion to remember her.

One of the organising team, Una Cavanagh, said: “It came about from something very tragic. Judi, when she was alive, raised a lot of money for Breast Cancer Care so that’s why we decided to choose them.

“She was such a vibrant member of Cherhill; she really left a massive whole in village life.

“It was absolutely amazing. More than anything I was pleased that Judi would have been pleased. We had two aims; to raise as much money as we could for Breast Cancer Care but also for everyone in the village to have a good night in Judi’s memory.”

Guests at the ball, which took six months to organise, enjoyed a champagne reception, before a three course meal provided by Devizes-based Vaughan’s Kitchen. Music was provided by band The What 4s and an auction also helped to raise further funds.

Vicky Wilson, who lives in the Manor House in Cherhill, said: “It was a tremendous success. Very many congratulations to the organisers on a marvellous Spring Ball in aid of Breast Cancer last night.”
