MORE than £4,000 has been raised by two Cross Manufacturing employees who ran the London Marathon last month in memory of colleague Terry Jeske.

Simon Gilbert and Nathan Smith, who are both member of Devizes Running Club, ran in support of Dorothy House Hospice and Prostate Cancer UK following the death of Mr Jeske, who passed away in April.

The 53-year-old father of two, who worked at Cross Manufacturing for 36 years as a department supervisor, was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and cared for by Dorothy House.

Mr Gilbert, 37, senior systems and infrastructure support manager at Cross, completed his first marathon in three hours 23 minutes.

He said: “I have seen many people go through Dorothy House and I always said I would raise money for them when I did a marathon.

“It was an amazing experience, Nathan and I have been training together for months to prepare.

“Dorothy House will be close to Cross’s heart after Terry, and many people here plan to do more fundraising.”

It was the eighth marathon for 43-year-old Mr Smith, acting production supervisor at Cross, who was the third quickest Wiltshire man finishing in two hours 57 minutes.

He said: “I got a place through the running club and decided to run it in Terry’s name.

“Because of my time and age I automatically have a place next year and I will be running again for prostate cancer."

The pair raised £4,400 in total, £1,700 for Prostate Cancer UK and £2,700 for Dorothy House.

Mr Gilbert said: “We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone for their sponsorship and support and would like to say a particular thank you to Cross Manufacturing for their generous donation of £500 to each charity.”
