Teacher’s pet has four legs

EMILIA the dog is teacher's pet in the classroom at Wiltshire College's Lackham campus.

The two-year-old bloodhound bitch is regularly bandaged, groomed and given health check ups as part of the curriculum for the two year National Diploma in Animal Management.

The pet is so placid that owner and college lecturer David Gore regularly brings her into class for the extra curricula activities.

He said: "Emilia really is such a gentle, loving and placid dog.

"She loves coming into college with me, and role-playing for the students.

"It's one thing talking about approaches and techniques but something quite different to actually put them into practice - and that's why Emilia is so helpful.

"The students get a lot out of the sessions and Emilia just loves all the fuss."

Student Laura Hale, 16, added: "Emilia is great and we all love her. She's so adorable. I find the sessions really helpful because they allow me to master the practical aspect of our course."

Emilia recently claimed third spot in the bloodhound class at this year's Crufts.
