PEOPLE who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve Devizes were honoued by the Devizes Town Council.

Civic awards were given to a range of people who have supported charities, provided employment and helped community groups.

Among those receiving a service to the people awards on Thursday evening from deputy mayor Roger Giraud-Saunders was Judy Podger who has served the town for 60 years.

She has recently retired from Pins and Needles haberdashery shop but in the past has run a cafe at The Wharf and a number of other businesses.

Mr Brazier was one of the founders of Devizes Festival and has also devoted much time to Devizes Film Club. The couple are leaving the town in the near future and were told by Coun Giraud-Saunders they would be sorely missed.
