SCORES of youngsters from primary schools had a gym-tastic time when they took part in a festival at Devizes School.

The youngsters first watched a display of gymnastics by pupils from Devizes School and then took part in work shops led by teachers and coaches from Wiltshire School of Gym.

Teacher Heather Bissell said: "More than 250 students from surrounding primary schools participated in the GYM-Tastic festival. It is part of a primary school programme called Devizes School Sports Network which has been running for two years to develop the quality of physical education and activity offered to students in primary school.

"We have formed an excellent relationship with these primary schools who work incredibly hard to ensure their students get the most out of what the network offers."

The gym event is one of five festivals led by Devizes School, which has sports college status, with each featuring a different sport to encourage youngsters to take part and become more active.

Taking part were children from Southbroom Infants, Wansdyke, Rowde, All Cannings, St Joseph's, Five Lanes, Urchfont, Bishops Cannings and Chirton.
