A MOTORCYCLE rider has apologised for failing to stop after he struck the wing mirror of a elderly couple's vehicle.

The 58-year-old male rider was attempting to overtake a 91-year-old driver and his wife on the A4 between Chippenham and Calne when he struck the vehicle’s wing mirror on April 11.

The driver of the car behind the elderly couple stopped to assist them and advised them that he would make footage of the incident from his front and rear dash cameras available to the police.

From the footage, police were able to identify the motorcycle involved and the rider was interviewed by PC Stockhill, of Calne Neighbourhood Police team.

The driver passed on his apologies to the elderly couple and has agreed to pay for the damage to their vehicle. He has also been reported for careless driving and failing to stop at a scene of a road traffic collision.

A Calne NPT spokesman said: “We would like to pass on our thanks to the witness who stopped to assist this elderly couple and for providing us with the video footage of the collision.”
