ROADS on The Avenues estate in Devizes are set to get a new 20 mph speed limit but the town council has not backed plans for speed humps on Brickley Lane.

The Devizes Community Area Transport Group put forward two options for reducing speed on the estate to the east of the the town.

Town councillors voted to back the less expensive scheme which sees residential roads between Nursteed Road and Windsor Drive having speed limits reduced from 30mph to 20mph but for Brickley Lane to only have road markings to warn drivers of the change rather than speed cushions, chicanes or raised tables.

The hard engineering option would have cost £30,000 while the road painting and sign option will cost £10,000.

Town councillors also voted against extending the 40mph limit in Windsor Drive to Jump Farm Road.
