A FOUR vehicle accident on the A303 caused severe traffic delays in the Wylye Valley, near Salisbury, this afternoon.

Traffic queued in both directions around Deptford because of the accident.

The area is now reported to be clear but traffic is queuing eastbound from Longbarrow towards Stonehenge.

No significant delays were reported on Wiltshire's roads first thing this morning, with a foggy and cool start to the bank holiday.

Traffic was busy but moving on the A350 Haynes Road, Westbury, around the B3098 Bratton Road junction before 10am.

Just before noon traffic was reported to be moving slowly on the A419 southbound between the Commonhead interchange and Junction 15 of the M4 (Swindon East) and in South Gloucestershire on the A46 northbound at the Cold Ashton roundabout

A top temperature of 15.5C was expected in Swindon this afternoon but it was easily topped and more warm weather is forecast for the next twor or three days.

Rail engineering work has seen Swindon acting as a drop-off point for those travelling to and from London Paddington throughout the bank holiday weekend.

Track improvement work at Reading meant there were no direct trains operating between London Paddington and Cheltenham Spa, meaning that many commuters had to change at Swindon.

Network Rail was reporting today that work was going according to schedule, tweeting pictures of the first switch on the final depot connection at Reading being installed this morning.

The first train from Maidenhead to Paddington without a replacement bus service is scheduled to be at 4.08am tomorrow.

Work on resignalling at Slough has been completed with testing due to finish at 8pm.
