Six leisure centres could close this weekend

The six leisure centres in North Wiltshire could close at the weekend.

Lime Kiln, Cricklade, Whitehorse, Olympiad, Malmesbury and Springfield may shut their doors if the trust that runs them decides it cannot afford to continue operating.

North Wiltshire Leisure Limited is having crisis talks this morning and the outcome of the meeting is uncertain.

The trust could decide to dissolve the organisation immediately, rather than running into any more debt.

North Wiltshire District Council has been pouring money into the trust to keep the centres open but is thought to have decided to stop the cash at a special meeting last night.

NWLL is already in a precarious financial position and if the council withdraws or caps its support the trust may dissolve sooner than first thought.

On March 30 DC Leisure will take over Lime Kiln, Olympiad, Malmesbury and Springfield but the centres may have to be close until then if NWLL folds before time.

Cricklade and Whitehorse are set to close on March 30 unless a miracle rescue package can be found to keep them open.
