YOUNG footballers ran 100km last week to raise money for a European tour in May.

The Worton and Cheverell under-14s took to the treadmill as part of a sponsored run in the Devizes Leisure Centre foyer on February 15.

From 8am, 14 team members with parents and two coaches each took a half-hour slot to get as far as they could.

The 100km mark was crossed after nine hours and 40 minutes, raising more than £1,200 for the team.

Under-14s coach Neil Black said: “It was a long day but we are very pleased with what was raised.”

The team will travel to the Eifel region in Germany to play two matches and will visit the stadium of 1FC Koln.

Around £5,000 will be needed to fund the trip. Future fundraisers include a ball in Devizes on Friday, March 13.
