I would like to highlight an incident that occurred in Devizes town centre this week that is a perfect illustration of the decency and honesty that are still prevalent in our community – despite all the usual doom and gloom.
After a rushed shopping expedition one night, unbeknownst to me, I had dropped my wallet containing money and credit cards in Sidmouth Street. There it remained lying in the street as I drove off.
I only realised it was missing the following morning as I drove to work. When I returned home, concerned about the wallet’s whereabouts, I found a handwritten note from a Mr Ali of Acropolis takeaway in Devizes, asking me to to attend his shop so the wallet could be returned.
I rushed up there and spoke to a nice lady who informed me that a passerby had noticed the wallet; picked it up and handed it into the staff at the Acropolis. They spent some time trying to find a phone number and when they couldn’t locate one took my address and drove out to our house to deliver the note.
I couldn’t thank them enough and just wanted to let everyone else know about this act of kindness.
Jonathan Watson, Poulshot.
