Veteran radio and TV presenter Terry Wogan was due to be in Devizes on Wednesday to talk to chef Peter Vaughan about the original Devizes cheesecake but this has now been postponed.

Wogan is one of the presenters for a BBC television programme Great British Food Trip and will be touring the country looking for unusual recipes.

Mr Vaughan, who runs The Bistro in the Little Brittox and Vaughan’s Cookery School, will make up the cheesecakes, once praised by Jane Austen, using an original recipe that was passed to him a number of years ago.

He said: “The important thing about the recipe is that it uses curd. It is completely different to cheesecakes as we know them today.”

Miss Austen sampled one of the cakes back in the 19th century when she stayed at The Bear Hotel in Devizes. Mr Vaughan said: “She wrote to her sister Cassandra praising the cheesecake.”

However, Mr Vaughan tweeted today that filming has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

He tweeted: “Production company planning to reschedule as soon as possible."
