A man fired a torrent of racist abuse at a photographer who was taking marketing shots of a charity shop.

Dean Kent, 22, was a passenger in a car when Navjot Sawhney stepped back into the road at the Heals shop in Malmesbury High Street.

James Burnham, prosecuting, told Swindon magistrates Mr Sawhney was taking the pictures at 6pm on January 27. As he stepped back he heard a car horn and a volley of abuse.

Mr Burnham said: “It was quite persistent. The vehicle stopped and the defendant continued the abuse.”

Kent, of Doveys Terrace, Kington Langley, Chippenham, admitted racially aggravated behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

Emma Thacker, defending, said he had suffered from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder since he was 11 years old and struggled to cope with some situations.

He was told to pay £50 compensation, £100 in fines and a £20 victim surcharge.
