A wall hanging that has taken pride of place at Marlborough Surgery for 17 years has been restored to its former glory thanks to members of Marlborough & District Embroiderers Guild.

The semi-circular embroidery hanging was first produced in 1997 for an exhibition in Devizes Museum and depicts many Marlborough landmarks including the River Kennet, The Castle and Ball, the churches and the town hall.

After the exhibition the artwork was offered to the practice in George Lane where it stayed until last year.

Guild members Rosemary Hawes, Ann Johnson, Audrey Peck and Margaret White have been meeting to renovate the hanging and add some new features.

Mrs Hawes said: “It took us about a year to finish with the ladies coming to my house almost every Monday morning.

“It’s definitely an improvement. It was just getting a bit grubby because it’s never been put under glass.

“Quite a lot of it is 3D and it’s supposed to be interactive so children can get close to it. There are little birds in the undergrowth so we want people to go up close to it and have a good look.
