Sainsbury's let little budding bakers into their breadmaking secrets in a school outing to the Chippenham supermarket.

Four to five-year-olds from Queen’s Crescent Primary were given a behind the scenes tour of the in store bakery on Monday and were amazed to discover all the children in the two foundation classes could fit into one of their walk in fridges.

They learned about the importance of yeast, experimenting with a bottle of water, sugar, yeast and a balloon, and were wowed to see how the activated yeast inflated the balloons.

Sainsbury’s regional business support manager Jason Ashcroft showed the youngsters how bakers work with dough and make perfectly round rolls.

He said: “It was great to do these sessions with the children. Sainsbury’s colleagues have a wealth of knowledge in many different areas and that’s why the store makes such a great learning resource. This is just another way we can support our local community.”

The store has supported other groups with their learning, including Chippenham 1st Brownies, St John’s Ambulance Badgers and Frogwell Primary School.
