The recent two-day public consultation over The Range’s proposed development was a rather subdued affair. But the need to take seriously where Chippenham is going in the future, bids fair to bring localism into any future consultation. In order to bring democracy into future plans, the people must decide. That is how democracy works.

We all know that Chippenham has been at the forefront of accepting many housing developments over the past 30 years, together with the establishment of several large industrial estates. All of which entailed huge changes to our tolerance of the many infrastructures that go with such developments. But the volume of traffic is surely now at saturation point, is it not?

Given a vote on whether Chippenham can take any more would be a fair way of deciding The Range argument, would it not?
