SWINDON Council is prepared to spend about £2,000 to change the name of Swindon Commercial Services to make it more relevant to its new role.
Abbreviated to SCS, the company used to be responsible for carrying out council services, such as collecting rubbish.
However, it now focuses on developing large-scale energy projects, and it is thought a new brand name is needed so it will become Public Power Solutions Ltd.
It is also felt that because the remit of SCS is now wider, it was worth dropping the Swindon aspect of the name so as not to limit business opportunities.
The estimated cost of changing the branding is believed to be in the region of £2,000.
SCS is owned by the council but run at arms-length, meaning there is no day-to-day control from the council.
