FOOTBALL lovers are hoping to score some big donations at a charity 11-a-side match in aid of the Prospect Hospice Savernake Appeal.

It will be a game of youth versus experience as the Marlborough Town Casuals take on the CJ Electrical Old Boys during the Boxing Day match at Marlborough Town Football Club.

Firefighter Wayne Presley, one of the organisers who plays for the Old Boys, said: “Marlborough Town Casuals are a group of young boys who play at Marlborough Town Football Club in the Swindon Sunday league and the CJ Electrical ‘Old Boys’ are the guys who used to be the casuals.

“Quite a few of the players we haven’t seen for a while so it will be like a reunion for us.

“Experience-wise we’ve got the advantage but I’m sure there’s been some pies consumed and pints drunk since we all played together last, so it will be interesting to see what shape everyone is in.”

People will be going around with collection buckets and asking spectators for donations towards the appeal.

Mr Presley said: “Personally, I’ve been touched by the hospice with family members using it and the more you talk to people the more you can see how important it is to the town.

“The club has a history of putting on charity matches on Boxing Day and I’ve been wanting to do something for the Prospect appeal for a while, so we just put two and two together.

“I think so far the appeal has been really well supported so hopefully we should raise a lot of money.”

After the 90-minute match, which kicks off at 12.30pm, there will be an auction and raffle.

Mr Presley said: “We’ve had so much interest from local companies wanting to make donations so there should be some fantastic prizes.

“We’re expecting a good turnout so it should be a really good party atmosphere.”

To make a donation to the raffle or auction contact the club on 01672 513340 or call Mr Presley on 07810 217829.
