DEVIZES MP Michael Ancram made a special visit to meet award-winning young people in Aldbourne.

Mr Ancram has been unable to attend the presentation of the Philip Lawrence Award to the Aldbourne BMX in London in December.

The group was one of only eight winners nationwide of the award made in memory of murdered headmaster Philip Lawrence.

The Devizes MP, who had written to the group to congratulate them, was so impressed with the youngsters that he asked to meet them personally.

He was given a presentation about the BMX group by the Aldbourne Youth Council, who told him they would be holding their own elections in May to coincide with the local authority elections.

Mr Ancram then visited the village youth club, which is held every Friday and talked to members and the volunteers who help run the youth club.

Musicians My Suggestion, who were playing at the club, asked Mr Ancram, well known for his amateur musical talents, if he would play a guitar.

The MP not only played for the youngsters, but also promised to bring his own guitar to a celebration day at the club on April 15.
