In your November 13 issue you published a letter from Coun Jon Hubbard, which amused me.

Coun Hubbard (leader of the Lib Dem group in Wiltshire council) seemed to have fire and passion in his belly when making comments in reply to Michelle Donelan’s (Conservative candidate in Chippenham) letter the previous week. It’s a shame that someone who cares so much about Wiltshire isn’t standing against Michelle, after all, he seems to be more keen than Nick Clegg’s man in Chippenham.

Coun Hubbard attacked Michelle Donelan for having previously stood in another seat. Perhaps his years of service on the council have made his mind weary. It would serve him well to remember that Nick Clegg’s man in Chippenham had stood for Parliament in Tottenham (2000), Watford (2001) and also Westbury (2005), before settling for Chippenham in 2010.

You would think, after four throws of the dice, it would be wise to spend time in the constituency, rather than having to split his time between London and his wife’s constituency in Scotland?

I would, however, ask Coun Hubbard a question: before I left the British Army in June, I had spent a considerable amount of my time travelling between my parents in the north east and Wiltshire (where I was posted).

Would Coun Hubbard like to take a swipe at me now that I have decided to settle in Wiltshire, a county I came to treasure after service to my country?

Gareth Milner, Chippenham.
