THE father of a teenager Miles Webber who died in a car crash near Devizes two years ago has received a young hero’s award on his behalf.

Miles, 13, of Littleton Panell, was a winner in the Pride of Devon awards after he was nominated for donating a number of his organs.

His proud father James, 39, collected the award at a ceremony in Torquay just days after he did a tandem skydive to raise money for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Mr Webber, who runs a recruitment business, raised around £1,700 for the charity.

Miles died of injuries sustained in a crash at Black Dog crossroads in November 2012 when his mother Amanda was driving him to Devizes to go skateboarding.

Mr Webber, who at the time of the accident was separated from his wife and has since remarried, drove from Devon to be at his son’t bedside.

His wife Jo said: “He will always be grateful to the air ambulance for airlfiting Miles and giving him the chance to be at his bedside.”

The Dauntsey schoolboy was first taken to Frenchay Hospital, near Bristol, and was later transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital.

While he was in the children’s hospital the family were approached about organ donation.

Mrs Webber said: “James was a donor card holder but had never had a conversation with Miles about it. But he knew it was what his son would have wanted as he was the sort of boy who always thought about others.”

Since the organ donations Mr Webber has received a number of letters from relatives of those who received his liver, kidneys and heart valves.

Mrs Webber said: “James can’t bring himself to read the letters as he finds it too upsetting but he is pleased and comforted by the fact that Miles has helped others.”
