Families flocked to Marlborough on Saturday to enjoy all the fun of the fair at this year’s big Mop.

This was the second of the two annual fairs, which date back to 1204, with the little Mop taking place two weeks ago.

The first event was largely peaceful with a small fight between youths putting a minor blot on festivities but this time round the event was problem free.

Sergeant Clare Wallace said: “The mop went really well, everybody had a good time and from a policing point of view there were no issues at all.

“All of the people who had caused issues at the last fair behaved well and caused no problems this time around after we followed up with them and dealt with the issues robustly.”

On Friday there were long traffic delays through the town after the High Street closed at noon to allow the fairground team to set up their rides. Traffic was diverted via George Lane until midnight on Saturday once the fairground rides had been packed away and cleared.
