People in Marlborough are concerned that plans for up to 220 new homes and a hotel on land off Salisbury Road would cause more traffic woes for the town.

An exhibition was held in the town hall on Sunday and Monday on The Crown Estate’s proposals for land opposite Tesco and the business park.

Two different options are currently on the table, a scheme providing up to 180 new homes and one providing up to 220 homes.

The second option would allow for the inclusion of a new hotel and both proposals would provide affordable housing, a school drop off for St John’s Academy and new walking and cycle routes.

Salisbury Road resident Sharron Hastings said: “Our major concern is that it’s only got one access point up by Tesco.

“What we’d like to see is linked access at the back of the estate from the Pewsey Road.”

The consultation comes a week after plans for a 64-bed care home with 28 assisted living units on Salisbury Road were approved.

Marlborough resident Andrew Smith said: “I have to travel up the Salisbury Road to get to work and at peak times the traffic is bad enough as it is. With the care home plans being given the thumbs up and now this it’s just going to get worse. Wiltshire Council needs to think about the infrastructure of the town’s roads before new houses are built.”

So far nearly 500 people have contributed to the consultation. View the plans at www.marlboroughnewhomes.
