Cherhill Primary School celebrated its book week last week with a series of events to celebrate the love of reading.

Children dressed up as their favourite book character on the Monday, and there was also a whole school assembly to launch the event.

Vouchers were given away to those with the best costumes, which included The Mad Hatter, James and the Giant Peach and Jack’s beanstalk.

Helen Lammin, deputy headteacher, said: “It was so difficult to judge the costume competition because they all looked fabulous.

“There’s been a lot of positive feedback from the parents and children; it’s always great to get the support from the staff and the parents.”

Pupils also received a visit from Laura Ashworth from Calne library, who conducted workshops with Key Stage 2 pupils relating to their topic, CSI, with excerpts from the Young Sherlock Holmes books.

On Thursday evening, more than 130 children returned to school in their pyjamas, accompanied by their cuddly toys, for bedtime stories with hot chocolate and biscuits.
