Devizes people worried about their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes were able to get advice at a roadshow.

Experts were in the Central car park last Thursday, to give a quick and confidential assessment to people.

The event was organised by Wiltshire Council and Diabetes UK, with support of the NHS Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

Visitors were given information about a healthy diet and physical activity.

Maggie Rae, corporate director for public health, said: “Early detection of Type 2 diabetes is very important, particularly because quite often people do not have symptoms. It can be a silent disease.

“Weight gain is a major contributor to developing type 2 diabetes and, as our waistlines expand, we are seeing more cases of diabetes every year throughout Wiltshire.

“Many people are unaware that men are at increased risk if their waist circumference is more than 37ins and for women if their waist is more than 31.5ins.”
