Royal Wootton Bassett Academy’s link with Malibu High School in Cape Town was strengthened this month with the visit of Cathy Adams, who teaches English at the South African school.

Mrs Adams, who was on her first visit to England, is the third member of the school’s staff to visit Royal Wootton Bassett. Two teachers from the academy plan to visit Cape Town this year.

Mrs Adams observed lessons and joined a school visit to London to attend a production of Julius Caesar at The Globe. She has also been sightseeing with her host Emma Stevens, and enjoyed seeing historic sites and visiting Salisbury Cathedral.

She was impressed by the facilities at the academy. Malibu High School does not have many computers, and classes are much larger than in England.

She said: “We have 1,400 students and 49 teachers. We have lots of sport and are involved in the community, with an outreach programme and visits to Cape Town City Council.”
