The family of attack victim Jason Edwards, who was left with serious head injuries after a late-night attack in the centre of Devizes, are staying by his hospital bedside.

Nearly two weeks after Mr Edwards was found with serious head injuries, slumped in the doorway of the Boots store in The Brittox, he remains in an induced coma at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

A close friend said: “His family have said that while he is still like this they do not want anyone else to visit.

“We are all very worried about him and just hoping he recovers. He is a good bloke and I think he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Mr Edwards, who lives in the Spitalcroft area and works as a lorry driver for a Bristol firm, grew up in the town and went to Devizes School.

He has two sons with the elder spending as much time as he can at the hospital.

The friend added: “He is well known in the town. He is just a regular Devizes lad.”

Mr Edwards, 42, suffered with serious head injuries after being beaten up as he walked down The Brittox.

He was found by a young man, just seconds after he had slumped in the doorway of Boots, just before 3am on Saturday, September 27.

DC Tom Allen, of Melksham CID, said police were still appealing for witnesses but he thanked people who had already come forward.

He said: “We have had a lot of help from people in the town.”

A man of 20 and two women, aged 22 and 26, all from Devizes who were arrested soon after the attack remain on police bail.

Anyone with information can contact DC Allen on the 101 non-emergency police number, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
