This is the 811th year that the Mop fairs have taken place, since King John granted the town’s charter of 1204. This weekend it’s the turn of the Little Mop with the Big Mop in two weeks.

The official opening ceremony is on Saturday at noon outside the Castle & Ball hotel when local youngsters can enjoy free rides.

Road closures from noon on Friday, reopening at 8am on Sunday.

2/  Meet Stormtroopers, Daleks and Darth Vaders at the first Feel The Force Day at Springfield Campus, Corsham, on Saturday, 10.30am-4pm.

It is a sensory sci-fi day for the disabled which organiser Aidan Davies says aims to break down boundaries. Admission is £2.50.

3/ In Devizes, see what DS Smith Packaging does at its first open day for several years with rides, a bouncy castle and tours of the factory in Mill Road, off Nursteed Road, from 11am to 5pm on Saturday.

The packaging firm, known as Linpac until 2004, has operated in the town since 1972. It now employs nearly 200 people.

4/ Shalbourne Classic Car Show is on Sunday with over 250 classic cars and motorbikes set to be on view, from Rolls-Royces and Bentleys to Ferraris, VW camper vans and Ford Capris.

The show - with hog roast, barbecue, children’s games and activities - is at the sports ground off Rivar Road, Shalbourne, from noon to 5pm, with plenty of parking.  Entry is £5 per adult (children admitted free).

5/ See root veg fly at Sherston's annual Mangold Hurling competition on Sunday at 12.30pm with more than 50 people expected to take part.
