Susie Fisher, whose partner Mike Bracey spent his last days at Prospect Hospice in Wroughton, is backing the Gazette’s Prospect appeal.

Mr Bracey died at Prospect Hospice in April 2012 aged 60, less than six months after being told he had cancer.

He was supported by the charity’s community-based nurses and his partner, Susie Fisher, is backing the appeal to bring some of the care he experienced closer to the people of the town.

Ms Fisher, who lives on The Green, has already made a personal donation to the appeal.

She said: “It is great to know that some of the care that Mike benefited from at the end of his life will be closer at hand for the people of Marlborough and the surrounding villages.

“I can’t say enough about the care that he had from the Prospect nurses – they were fantastic, and so considerate.”

Ms Fisher said: “Had these services been available while Mike was ill, I believe they would have been extremely helpful to him.  I am certain that, in future, the outpatient centre will be so convenient for the people of Marlborough.

“I also think that the town’s support for Savernake Hospital will see them respond to the opening of the centre as a very positive step forward.”

The care Mr Bracey received at the hospice inspired Marlborough’s former mayor, Edwina Fogg, to choose Prospect as her charity of the year in 2012.

Ms Fisher sat on the Mike Bracey Appeal Committee which raised £8,000 during Mrs Fogg’s mayoral year through a number of fundraising activities including a race night at the Town Hall.
