Wiltshire MPs are among those who have written to Patrick McLoughlin, Secretary of State for Transport, calling for a direct train service between Oxford and Bristol.

Conservative and Lib Dem MPs from Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Bristol and Somerset want the service to be included in the next Great Western franchise, which is due to start in September next year.

The proposed route would connect Bristol, Bath, Chippenham and Swindon to Oxford and Bedford.

Duncan Hames, Liberal Democrat MP for Chippenham, and James Gray, Conservative MP for North Wiltshire, are among the ten MPs who have signed the letter.

The Department for Transport has yet to comment.
