Calne schoolboy Jason Kellinger has been appointed head chorister for the year for Salisbury Cathedral Choir.

In his new role, Jason, 12, will lead the choir of 16 boys, sing solos and give a sermon in the tradition of the Boy Bishop Ceremony on Sunday December 7.

He said: “I am really delighted to have been appointed as head of the boys’ choir for this year.

“I am looking forward to leading the choir especially at the busy special services such as the Darkness to Light services for Advent, at Christmas and Easter.”

A former pupil of Fynamore Primary School in Calne, Jason started singing at the age of six where he was taught by Calne singing teacher Michelle Sheridan.

He is currently in his final year at the Salisbury Cathedral Choir, having been there for three years, and hopes to continue his musical education at Marlborough College.

Salisbury Cathedral Choir has separate boys and girls sections, both having 16 children aged between eight and 13 who between them sing nine services a week.
