Funeral directors C S Bowyer are appealing for help with their campaign to collect as many unwanted textiles as possible to raise money for the hospice Helen and Douglas House.

The campaign, which runs untill December 31, is to collect black bin liners full of clothes, soft toys, paired shoes, caps, linen, bags and belts.

C S Bowyer will then arrange with Devizes-based charity Bag4Sport to weigh the items, which will be taken away in return for a cheque to the firm to donate to the hospice charity for children and young adults.

The charity was chosen by Trowbridge branch funeral arranger and administrator Adam Bewley as it looked after his 15-year-old cousin, Harry Dodd, from Devizes, before he died from a brain tumour in 2012.

Mr Bewley said: “Each month C S Bowyer do a community activity, with the money going to extremely worthy causes. Having not worked with Helen and Douglas House previously, this was a perfect opportunity for us to do so.

“It couldn’t be easier as we just want people’s rubbish. We will collect any black bin liner full of clothes or any other soft textiles, which will then be weighed by Bag4Sport in return for a cheque.

“Harry was diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was 15 and his story touched a lot of people, especially in the Devizes area where his family is from.

“During that time we saw the great work that Helen and Douglas House carry out, so the decision to donate the money raised through this campaign is very personal to me, and hopefully the community will get involved.”

C S Bowyer is well known for its community activities in West Wiltshire, with the Bradford branch recently competing in the soapbox derby in Trowbridge, as well as the pancake race, a book sale and photo competition.

Anyone wishing to donate can do so by dropping a bin bag with textiles at CS Bowyer or, alternatively, contact Mr Bewley at adam.bewley@csbowyer.co.uk to arrange for bags to be picked up.
