Pupils at Dauntsey’s celebrated outstanding GCSE results this morning, with a remarkable 47.3% of nearly 1,200 entries awarded an A* grade - a new school record - while an impressive 76.5% were at A* or A grade.

Students, parents and staff are celebrating the best ever results at Bradon Forest School, Purton, with 62% of students achieving the Government’s ‘gold standard’ of five A*-C including English and mathematics.

Headteacher Andrew Morrison said: “These results represent the culmination of a huge amount of hard work from students and staff supported by parents and carers.”

Abbeyfield School headteacher David Nicholson, who leaves after eight years, said: “It is a good way to end the years I’ve worked here. 

"I’m particularly pleased for those who have got A* to B because that means they can now enter sixth form."

A leading Wiltshire councillor has said all involved in getting GCSE results today can be proud of their achievements.

There were tears of joy at St John's in Marlborough as year 11 students picked up their GCSE results - 27 students achieved at least 10 A* or A grades. 

Principal Patrick Hazlewood said: "We know that these exams are being toughened up and our students' determination to succeed is a great testament to them."

Devizes School saw the number of pupils achieving at least five A* to C grades, not including English and maths, increase by two per cent to 72 per cent.
