The organiser of the Devizes Mayor’s Baby Show is encouraging parents to put forward their youngsters.

The show was held for the first time last year after the Devizes Carnival committee axed the baby show from the carnival programme.

Last year’s show was held in the town hall but organiser, Jeanette Von Berg, has secured the Corn Exchange and it will be held on Wednesday August 20 from 10am to 1.30pm.

Miss Von Berg said: “We held the Carnival Baby Show in the Corn Exchange and I am pleased we have got the Corn Exchange because there’s more space for prams and children can run around and I think people have got used to it being in the Corn Exchange. I do hope that people will support it. There are lots of babies in the town.”

Miss Von Berg revived the Carnival Baby Show four years ago in memory of her friend, the late Midge Webster, who organised the show for many years.

Devizes Outdoor Celebratory Arts which runs Devizes Carnival scrapped it last year because the committee felt it ‘did not fit with the ethos of the contemporary carnival programme’.

Devizes Mayor Pete Smith agreed the show should be renamed the Devizes Mayor’s Baby Show and current mayor Sarah Bridewell has given it her backing.

Entry forms for the show are available at Rowlands Pharmacy, Little Brittox, Devizes, but entries can be taken on the day. Entry fee is £2 and spectators by donation. The age groups are 0 to six months, six to 12 months and 12-18 months.
