Wiltshire and Swindon Combined Fire Authority wants two people to help support the promotion and maintenance of high standards of conduct by its elected members.

There are two vacancies and the closing date for applications is September 4.

The views of the two independent persons are sought and taken into account by the authority before decisions are made on any allegations relating to the Code of Conduct for members.

The independent persons are invited to attend the Ethics Committee, which usually meets up to four times a year during the day.

They may also be asked if they would be willing to attend other meetings, such as the Appeals Committee, which sits on an ad hoc basis, or to assist with any other disciplinary issues that may arise.

The authority says those applying should:

• Be of the highest integrity;

• Show an appreciation of the complex issues that can arise within any large organisation;

• Have a commitment to building a healthy local democracy; and

• Have an interest in seeing more transparent, democratic engagement by the authority with the communities it serves.

They cannot be ‘party political’ or have been a member of the authority, or an employee of Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, within the last five years.

They cannot be related to, or a close friend of, any current member or employee.

The successful candidate will qualify for an allowance as well as travel and subsistence costs.
