A PETITION has been started calling for action to deal with the increase in numbers of seagulls in Devizes.

Gulls are nesting on the roofs of industrial buildings in Garden Trading Estate and residents in White Horse Way and Combe Walk say they are sleep deprived due to the noise from the gulls in the early hours.

Laura Mayes, Wiltshire councillor for the area, has started the petition which she will take to Devizes Area Board. It says: “The seagull menace in Devizes and Roundway is becoming steadily worse and is ruining the quality of life for residents.”

The petition had 150 signatures within the first three days after it was launched last Friday.

Wendy McWilliams, one of the residents of White Horse Way affected by the gulls, said: “I’m pleased that Laura has started a petition. The problem of seagulls is not only here, it’s also on the other side of town and they are now on The Crammer.”
