A man who struck a drinker with a glass outside a Pewsey pub has been remanded in custody by a judge.

Daniel Evetts, 28, pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful wounding when he appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday.

Evetts assaulted Thomas Smart, 22, in the incident at The Royal Oak shortly after midnight on the morning of Sunday June 22.

Evetts, of High Street, Pewsey, pleaded not guilty to the more serious charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

But after he admitted unlawful wounding prosecutors said they would not proceed with the other charge.

Judge Douglas Field adjourned the case to Friday, August 8, to give the probation service time to compile a pre-sentence report and remanded him in custody until then.

Police had been called to the pub shortly after closing time to reports of a man being struck with a glass.

He was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon where he was treated for cuts and bruises to his head and neck.
