The mother of a young Pewsey youngster Tavis Gray, who has a rare form of bone cancer, says she is overhelmed at the support from the community.

A craft fair in Devizes and a car wash in Pewsey raised £1,744 for a fund set up to help nine-year-old Tavis receive specialist treatment in America.

Mum Sharon said: “We are so grateful to everyone who has shown support.”

A fair at Devizes Corn Exchange by the Finlay Foundation raised £912.77.

Niki Connor, whose son Finlay died when he was hit by a bus as they walked to Woodborough Primary School in 2011, said: “I hope the money can help Tavis even in just a small way.

“There was a really friendly and supportive atmosphere at the fair. Most of the stall holders booked on the spot for our winter craft fair in The Corn Exchange on November 1.

“Liz Grey, our treasurer, and I would like to thank all of those that helped us make this such a success.

“We are now looking forward to the next event, a vintage garden party on July 19.”

Pewsey crew manager Mark Hillier was delighted at the £832 raised at a car wash at Pewsey Fire Station.

He said: “These things are always well supported but the amount of many of the donations was far more than usual.

“A few people were handing over £20 notes. We are very pleased to be able to help Tavis and his family.”

Tavis has undergone chemotherapy in Oxford last week but was well enough to spend a few hours back at Pewsey Primary School.

His mother works at Puddleducks Nursery in Pewsey.

Nursery manager Beverley Smith, who is co-ordinating the fundraising, said: “There was a little bit of good news from the hospital as a scan showed a tumour had reduced in size."

Money for Tavis, who suffers from Ewings sarcoma, will also be raised at a quiz at the Woodbridge Inn, near Pewsey, on Wednesday, July 23.
