Youngsters preparing to go on to secondary school have learned about teamwork from the Red Arrows.

The Royal Air Force display team sent literature about itself for a project run at Five Lanes Primary School in Worton and involving senior youth worker in the parish Steve Dewar.

The project aimed to support primary school children through the transition to secondary school by using mentoring, group work and positive activities to build confidence and social skills.

Mr Dewar said: “The students that took part this year were amazed by some additional support and encouragement by the Royal Air Force display team, the Red Arrows, who sent along some encouraging words and resources to help towards their research and presentation.

“The students looked at the skills needed such as team work and understanding the Red Arrows motto Éclat, a French word meaning brilliance or excellence.

“It transpired in the research that they carried out that Potterne was closely linked to ‘The Reds’ via former local resident Mr Charles Boyack.

"The former Wing Commander was sent to RAF Scampton to supervise the Red Arrows display team.

"He was made an MBE for his work for the Potterne and Devizes Royal British Legion but sadly died after a long illness, aged 74 back in 2008.”
