Calne sixth formers enjoy a sunshine prom
Sixth form students from Calne's John Bentley School spent a chilled out evening in the sun during their Year 13 prom at Lackham College.
Around 50 students enjoyed a barbecue with burgers, hot dogs and potato wedges in the college grounds on Thursday, as well as a disco.
They were allowed to bring a plus-one and some of the students bought guests who included former sixth form students.
The prom was organised by head students Annabel Childs, Hannah Mackenzie, Lydia West, George Nott and Josh Seymour, who started planning in September.
They held several fundraising events throughout the year, and Miss Child’s mum helped out by making profiterole desserts for everyone.
Ruth Wood, director of post 16 education, and Sue Ellis, assistant head of sixth form, used multi-coloured organza bags to make happiness packs for all the pupils.
The packs included a piece of string, to tie things together when they fall apart, an eraser to make all your mistakes disappear, and a rubber band, to stretch you beyond your limits.
Ms Wood said: “They all said how lovely their little packs were.
“We were very lucky, it was beautiful sunshine all evening. We sat outside most of the evening, we moved inside about 11pm and finished at 11.40pm.
“We had the gentlemen in suits of various colours with different ties and the ladies in cocktail dresses and heels that were bigger than mine.
“It was a beautiful way to send them off. We’ve got many going off to university, some of them starting on management courses and some going to apprenticeships.
“They have been amazing, they have been really hard-working.”
