Youngsters at First Stages musical theatre group in Devizes will be performing some of the Bard’s work.

The group is presenting a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Corn Exchange from Friday to Sunday, July 11-13.

Carole Berry, of First Stages, said: “For many of the young members of the group this will be their first experience of Shakespeare, in this, his 450th anniversary year.

"The poetry and magic of the original text has been a challenge and a revelation for the young performers. The group includes children from 16 local schools aged from eight to 16.”

The show has been endorsed by the Royal Shakespeare Company and is supported by several friends of the group, including well-known actors and musicians.

Music for the show is an eclectic mix, with Barney Goodall leading the band fresh from his first appearance at Glastonbury, while original costumes have been created by Sarah Williams.

Tickets are on sale online at www.firststages.org.uk or from Devizes Books, Sidmouth Street, Devizes.
