A colourful space for relaxation has proved to be a hit with pupils at St Peter’s Primary School in Marlborough.

The new space is based on Oscar Wilde’s Selfish Giant and a motif by artist Josh Simpson depicts the giant lifting Jesus up to a tree in his garden as the seasons change from winter to spring.

The project was funded by St Mary’s Church in Marlborough and the Friends of St Peter’s and St Mary’s Pupils came up with their own set rules for the area during a school assembly which include making sure the area is quiet and peacefull at all times.

Headteacher Caroline Spindlow said: “We felt there was a need in the school to have a space to reflect which is quiet and special where the children could go to pray or read a book.

“As a Church of England school we wanted it to be a spiritual place. One of the children said ‘it really adds colour to our school’.”

This week the reflection area was blessed by the Rev Andrew Studdert-Kennedy, rector of Marlborough.
