Malmesbury firefighters will be hoping that it’s second time lucky this weekend when they hold a charity car wash on Saturday.

The event had been scheduled for last weekend, but the crew were called away to provide cover in Devizes while colleagues there helped to deal with the blaze at Shanley’s scrapyard in Trowbridge.

It is now intended to hold the car wash at the fire station in Gloucester Road, starting at 10am.

Proceeds from the event will be split between the Fire Fighters Charity and covering the costs of an ornate memorial bench, which will be placed next to the fire station as a permanent tribute to two former firefighters, Steve Mills and Martyn Snell.

As well as washing cars in return for donations, firefighters will also be able to advise on home fire safety and provide information to anyone interested in joining Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service as an ‘on-call’ firefighter.
