After a miserable season which saw his beloved Bristol Rovers relegated from the Football League, a long-suffering Neston-based fan is looking back to better days.
Writer Martin Bull, 43, of Moor Green, is calling on other Wiltshire Gasheads – Bristol Rovers fans – to contribute stories to his project, Away the Gas, a book of fans’ adventures on the road.
He said: “Home games are often routine; you leave home at the same time and you go to the same spot, but away games are completely different. Things always go wrong, and they tend to give you better stories.
“There was a really good story back in the '70s about the police telling people to take their shoes off if they had steel toecaps, so there were all these fans on the terrace wearing their socks.”
The deadline for submissions is July 31, with the book due for completion by October.
The father-of-two said: “I was born in Colerne and I started supporting Bath Rugby, but then a friend at university was a Bristol Rovers fan and slowly I wanted something a bit more raucous.
"Rovers were playing in Bath and I loved it. I’ve been a fan since.”
Send submissions for the book to hello@awaythegas.org.uk
