Seend Cleeve mum Sarah Hill is delighted with the success of her series of children’s books, featuring a pixie called Posie.

Mother-of-three Mrs Hill, 37, has published the fourth in the series of Whimsy Wood books, designed for children aged five to eight but which have a much wider readership.

Posie Pixie and the Fire-works Party has just hit the bookshelves in stores all over the country and the world, with huge interest from readers young and old in the United States.

Mrs Hill said: “They love anything English in America and they adore Whimsy Wood.”

In fact, it was interest from an American illustrator that finally got Whimsy Wood into print after about 20 rejection letters from publishers.

She said: “I got the message from him via the LinkedIn social networking site. He said they were just the kind of books he could work with and put me in touch with Abela Publishing.”

Mrs Hill, a vet by training, gave up work to have her children and started writing as a means of filling the time between feeds. She said: “I didn’t have any thoughts of getting published, Posie Pixie just suggested herself to me.

“My husband Matt and I are outdoorsy types so the woodland background for Posie was so natural.”

The first Whimsy Wood book was published last July, just a few weeks after the arrival of the Hills’ third child, Monty, a brother for Olivia, six, and four-and-a-half-year-old Poppy.

Mrs Hill said: “Fourteen books are written and seven have been edited. One will be published every three to four months.”

Mrs Hill has done 14 or 15 school visits in the last year. Most recently she worked with children at St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Devizes on a project for World Book Day.

Laura Wilcox, the Year 2 teacher at St Joseph’s, said they featured: “A magical whimsy world with most wonderful descriptions to capture a child’s imagination.”
